Novice/Atom Playoffs

Feb. 19, 2019

Good day all,

Tournament format:

The tournaments will be seeded and all rankings will be decided once the season is completed ( February 18 will be a cut off date for seedings). In the event of a tie then the SHA tiebreaker formula will be used.

1,2,3 from the north and the south will play in a one day 6 team tournament.

The top seeded team has the first opportunity to host the tournament. If they decline, it will then go to the seconded seeded team. This process will continue until a hosting community has been found.

4,5,6 from both north and south will play in a one day 6 team tournament. Hosting community is chosen the same as above.

7, 8 teams will then play in a four team tournament. Hosting community is chosen the same as above.

9,10 will then play in a four team tournament. Hosting community is chosen the same as above.

Games will be 2 - 20 minute straight time periods, with the third period being stop time. If there is a 7 goal lead then the clock will be switched to straight time.

Referees:

The hosting community can supply up to 4 referees. All other teams in the tournament may be requested to bring one age appropriate ref. This request is coming, as these tournaments will be used as an opportunity for our young refs to receive coaching and mentoring from adult refs. These will be chosen by the league RIC.

In the event that the hosting community is unable to supply 4 referees the league RIC may help fill in the gaps.

Paying refs and Ice rental:

If required to pay for Ice rental a gate or a team registration fee could be charged.

Communities that are running gates, 50/50, raffle tables etc can use the proceeds from these to pay for the referees. In the unlikely event that there is not enough money, then the teams at the tournament may be required to kick in a little extra money to help cover the cost of the referees.

Volunteers:

Volunteers would be expected from all the teams to help run things like the gate, 50/50 etc. The hosting community is to be the organizer and may be required to send a list of times and activities volunteers are required for to the other teams, so parents can put in the times they are able to help out.

I trust this answers some of the more pressing questions at this time. If there are further questions do not hesitate to speak with your association president, who will then contact the hi-way 14 hockey league executive.

Regards,

HI-Way 14 Executive
